Conference curated by Morena Luciani Russo in collaboration with Luciana Percovich, Daniela Degan, and Sarah Perini.

PRESENTATION OF THE CONFERENCE

There are paths that have long remained Unnamed, for so long that it seems difficult to walk them again. We name the Earth upon which they open because, according to the principles of the Quintessence of Mary Daly, by Naming Her we restore new life and dignity to Her.

Even when our Western culture defines the Earth as Mother and as a source of nourishment, it always implies a neutral, detached, and anthropocentric ecological vision, the result of the split between Spirit and Matter, between realms separated by artificial barriers of incomunicability.

The living matriarchal societies that Culture Indigene di Pace has studied for years and presented at conferences have never forgotten to honor the life of the soil that nourishes us, the care required so that this thin layer may continue to regenerate and maintain its fertile balance, the result of the work of billions of cells and organisms. Communities flourish in peace where seeds are preserved and the interconnection among plants, animals, humans, and bacteria is acknowledged and supported.

What is the relationship of these societies with Nature? How do they regard and defend the gifts of the Earth, the seeds that are the common heritage entrusted to us by our Ancestresses and Ancestors?

What theories and ideas are maturing in the Western world toward a more mature and responsible vision after several millennia of wild plundering of the immense riches of living matter?

Do we have the means and the will to correct the blind and arrogant direction into which we have long been channeled?

Alongside Indigenous communities, in this edition we wish to give voice to those who have established wise relationships with the Earth and her creatures.

The symbol of this event will be the She-Bear, an ancient manifestation of Mother Earth in the northern part of the boreal hemisphere, the Primordial Mother who devotedly nourishes her offspring and heals wounds, ancient and powerful Lady of Animals and Plants, as vast as the sky with all its stars.

We invoke the healing power of the She-Bear over our polluted waters and eroded and desiccated soils, over manipulated food, over animal and plant species in suffering or facing extinction.

And may the She-Bear, like the North Star, reorient our paths upon the Earth, our ways of bringing forth and protecting generated life, our capacity to listen to the plant and animal world, and thus restore the creative process in harmony with the wisdom of the Traditions.
